Katie Lovelace Memorial Fund and Scholarships
On the evening of June 9th, 2000, 12 year old Katie Lovelace was killed near her Pleasant Hill home by a hit and run motorist who was eventually arrested and charged with her death. Katie’s untimely death was a tragedy for the Lovelace family and their many friends. Her loss was deeply felt by members of the Pleasant Hill community and schools where Katie was preparing to enter the 7th grade.
Katie was an excellent student and excelled in sports. As a fitting tribute to her life, the Lovelace family established the Katie Lovelace Enrichment Fund. Since 2001, the Lovelace family, in collaboration with the Pleasant Hill Foundation, has provided funding for students to participate in music, athletics and art programs.
Additionally, each spring, two $1000 Katie Lovelace Memorial Scholarships are awarded to eligible Pleasant Hill High School seniors planning on attending Oregon colleges. The Pleasant Hill Foundation administers this scholarship program. Award recipients are chosen based on academic performance, high school club and community involvement, awards, participation in music and athletics, and the student’s own narrative related to community service and career goals.
The Pleasant Hill Foundation wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the many people who have graciously supported these enrichment and scholarship programs and especially to the Lovelace family for choosing to honor Katie's memory in this way.
